Dear Teachers,
You pour into others all year long. You rise early and stay late. You notice the child who needs a little extra love. You stay calm when chaos walks in the door. You advocate, encourage, uplift, teach—and then teach some more. You hold space for students, families, and colleagues. But how often do you hold space for yourself?
This Teacher Appreciation Week, we invite you to do something radical: celebrate yourself by choosing your well-being—not just for a week, but as a practice, a boundary, a way of being.
Too often, appreciation comes in the form of coffee mugs, cupcakes, and thank-you notes (and yes, those are sweet). But we know the real recognition—the kind that sustains and heals—comes from within and from communities that see you fully. So here’s an invitation: take this week as a reminder that your joy, your rest, your breath, your boundaries—are worth honoring.
Centering Your Well-Being Is Radical
Choosing your well-being might look like:
- Saying no without guilt.
- Stepping away from work emails after hours.
- Taking a deep breath before entering the classroom—and another when you leave.
- Reconnecting with the parts of you that exist beyond the job title.
- Gathering with people who replenish your spirit.
- Asking for help and knowing you deserve it.
This profession asks a lot—especially of teachers of color, queer teachers, and those teaching in under-resourced communities. But you don’t have to earn your rest. You don’t need to wait for someone else to give you permission to prioritize yourself.
Let’s Not Forget: Well-Being Is a We Practice
While self-care is essential, community care is the deeper soil where true healing grows. You shouldn’t have to carry the weight alone—and you don’t have to.
Whether it’s a trusted colleague who checks in after a hard day, a healing circle that gives you space to be honest, or a community that reminds you that your needs matter, know this: you are held. Community care reminds us that individual wellness isn’t just a personal responsibility—it’s a collective commitment.
Lean on your people. Share your load. Ask, offer, receive. Community care is one of the most powerful antidotes to burnout.
Let Teacher Appreciation Week Be the Beginning—Not the Exception.
What if Teacher Appreciation Week wasn’t the only time you felt celebrated? What if your well-being was not a luxury, but a foundation? What if you built in rhythms of care that lasted all year?
We believe it’s possible. And we believe you deserve that and more.
This week, we honor you. But more importantly, we urge you to honor yourself—to see your humanity as just as important as your work. Because when you are well, your students thrive. Your classroom breathes. Your light stays lit.
From one educator to another: thank you for everything you give. Now, go give something back to yourself—and let your community hold you, too.
With deep love and appreciation,
Healing Schools Team
